Accounting as a Business

Accounting can be a profitable and rewarding business. If you are prepared to work some long hours for good pay and you are good at facts and figures, then this can be a sound business.

To start your accounting business you will first need to get prepared for laying the groundwork.

What do you need to start:

1. Choose a business name. Sometimes choosing your own name is a good idea and will be easily recognized.

2. Do a trademark search. You don't want to infringe on someone's trademark as that can cost you thousands if you are using someone elses tradename and offering similar services. You can do a trademark search at the USPTO web site.

3. Get your DBA or Assumed Name Certificate and then a business phone line.

4. Open your business checking account.

5. Get your professional stationery designed and printed. To start you will need:

business cards
brochures
letterhead
envelopes
6. Go ahead and register a domain name in your business name even if you aren't ready to open your web site yet.

7. Write your business plan and your marketing plan. You can find help on writing a business plan at BPlans.com

8. You can find a lot of business startup resources along with a lot of business tools and helpful startup articles at Digital-Women.com

Good Luck!
